Take part in the 10 Actions for the First 100 Days Campaign! On January 21, over 5 Million of us worldwide and over 1 Million in Washington, D.C., came to march, speak and make our voices heard. But it doesn’t end here – now is not the time to hang up our marching shoes – it’s time to get our friends, family and community together and make history. Every 10 days, the 10 Actions for the First 100 Days Campaign will take action on an issue we all care about, and give you the necessary tools and direction to get involved. Click the link above to get started!
Keep checking back on this section. We will have updates for more action as the need arises. If you would like to join our Action Team finding issues that Westchester NOW should act on, please click on the button to let us know via email that you’d like to volunteer! Please supply all of your contact information in the message.
NOW 2015 Reproductive Rights Pledge
With right wing extremists poised to control both houses of Congress, we know stepped-up attacks on abortion and birth control are coming our way. Conservatives are bent on blocking insurance coverage of birth control, passing a 20-week abortion ban in clear violation of Roe v. Wade, and defunding family planning clinics that serve millions of women. But with your help, we can stop them.
I pledge to:
*Speak out: Words have power. I won’t use the words “pro-life” to describe those who support anti-birth control policies or abortion restrictions that demean and disempower women. I will also encourage those around me to identify violence against abortion providers for what it is: terrorism.
*Talk: I will talk to my family, friends, and neighbors about the need to promote all women’s ability to make independent decisions, free from undue pressure and coercion. And I’ll urge them to keep a candidate’s stance on these issues in mind when they enter the voting booth.
*Stay informed: I’ll maintain awareness of reproductive rights legislation in my state. One way of staying informed is subscribing to NOW’s action alerts.
*Get involved locally: I’ll reach out to groups that provide clinic defense or escort services in my area, work for safe, affordable reproductive healthcare access in my community, or get involved with my local NOW chapter.
*Get involved online: I’ll use Twitter, Facebook and blogs to connect with others — in my town, my state, my country and across the globe — working for reproductive freedom and rights.
NOW-NYS Task Force on LGBT Initiatives
Let’s make make a difference! NOW is committed to fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in all areas, including employment, housing, public accommodations, health services, child custody and military policies. NOW supports educational efforts that combat the adverse effects of homophobia, promote positive images in the media and ultimately ensure civil rights protection. NOW asserts the right of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people to live their lives with dignity and security, and the right of equal marriage for all.
The NOW-NYS State Council unanimously voted to implement the statewide Task Force on LGBT Initiatives. The purpose of this body is to organize broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation. As we are a brand new task force, we need school, faith-based, corporate, coalition, and corporate volunteers and sponsors.
